The Supreme Court Summer Institute is a highly regarded professional development opportunity designed to help secondary social studies educators deepen their understanding of the U.S. Supreme Court and strengthen classroom instruction about the judiciary and constitutional law.
What it is:
A week-long, immersive summer institute that brings together 60 teachers from across the country for six days of expert-led sessions, interactive activities, and firsthand engagement with current and historical Supreme Court cases.
When & Where (2026):
Two sessions—June 7–12 or June 21–26, 2026, at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.
Who should apply:
Secondary teachers (grades 7-12) of social studies or law-related courses with an interest in civics, government, or constitutional law.

Selection & application:
This is a competitive application process; about 60 teachers are selected each year. Applicants must complete the online application and an administrator reference form by March 1, 2026.
Stipend requirement:
To receive the $200 post-Institute stipend, participants agree to complete a follow-up activity, such as conducting a workshop, writing a journal article about their experience, or participating in sustained support with Street Law staff.
Cost & logistics:
A $150 registration fee covers materials and most meals. Discounted hotel options are available for participants.
