Professional Development Opportunity for Social Studies Educators
The Teacher Fellowship Program from C-SPAN Classroom is a national professional learning opportunity for middle and high school teachers who are familiar with C-SPAN’s educational resources and want to help expand them for classrooms across the country.
What it is:
A competitive fellowship where selected educators work collaboratively with the C-SPAN Education Relations team to create new teaching materials, lesson plans, and video-based classroom resources using C-SPAN programming.
Who should apply:
Middle and high school teachers who already use or are familiar with C-SPAN Classroom resources and can demonstrate innovative classroom integration of C-SPAN content.
What participants do:
- Develop new instructional content using C-SPAN programs for the C-SPAN Classroom and StudentCam websites.
- Collaborate remotely with the Education Relations team over several weeks during the summer (recent formats have run approximately late June–July).
- Participate in C-SPAN’s Virtual Summer Educators’ Conferences as part of the fellowship experience.
Benefits:
- A stipend (recent fellowships have offered about $1,000) for time, work, and participation in the program.
- Professional recognition for contributing national-level instructional resources.
- Connection with a national network of educators dedicated to civic media and government instruction.
Why it matters:
This fellowship is a rare chance for classroom teachers to influence the national pool of civics and social studies materials, gain visibility as content developers, and deepen their professional practice using authentic primary-source media drawn from C-SPAN’s extensive video library.
