Educators-in-Residence Program

A National Professional Opportunity for ICSS Members

The Educators-in-Residence (EnR) program, hosted by the Center for European Studies at the University of Florida, is a semester-long professional learning opportunity for K–12 and community college educators who want to strengthen their content knowledge and bring global perspectives into their classrooms.

This program is especially valuable for social studies teachers looking to enhance instruction in world history, civics, geography, economics, and cultural studies.


About the Program

The Educators-in-Residence program runs January–May and is fully online. Participants engage with university scholars, explore contemporary European studies topics, and translate new learning into classroom-ready lesson plans aligned to K–12 standards.

Educators in the program:

  • Deepen content knowledge in European and global studies
  • Develop original, standards-aligned instructional materials
  • Collaborate with a national network of educators
  • Engage with University of Florida faculty and academic resources

Program Structure

The program includes several key components:

  • Virtual Opening Conference
    A one-day kickoff introducing participants to the program, pedagogy, and faculty experts.
  • Faculty-Led Webinars
    Interactive sessions focused on content areas such as immigration, sustainability, culture, art, conflict, and global connections.
  • Lesson Development
    Throughout the semester, educators design original lesson plans or curriculum modules for classroom use.
  • Closing Workshop
    A half-day virtual session where participants present lessons and receive feedback prior to final submission.

Completed lessons are published as free, publicly accessible teaching resources.


Eligibility

The program is open to:

  • U.S. K–12 teachers
  • Community college instructors
  • Educators from any discipline interested in global and European studies

Participants represent a wide range of grade levels, school contexts, and teaching backgrounds.


Applicants submit:

  • An online application
  • Resume or CV
  • Teaching materials
  • A brief statement of purpose outlining instructional goals
