Holocaust Program – Documenting History
Documenting History: General Eisenhower knew the importance of primary sources to document history. His outrage at the discovery of Ohrdruf concentration camp by American soldiers turned into his resolve to tell the world about the camps. He brought in members of Congress, prominent journalists, and other American units to witness and document the camp. In this session, students will analyze primary sources that record atrocities of the Holocaust.
Children of Terezin: As Nazi forces terrorized and murdered minority groups across Europe, many other brave individuals found ways to bring salvation or solace to those being persecuted. Through the unique story of the Terezin concentration camp, students will learn how altruism and art proved that one person can make a difference. As a follow up activity, students will have the opportunity to design a butterfly as part of The Butterfly Project, an international initiative to honor 1.5 million children killed in the Holocaust.
