Teaching American History presents the First Amendment. This seminar explores the crucial role of free speech in a democratic republic and the Court’s evolving standards of jurisprudence over the past hundred years. Using primary documents as the basis of our conversation, we will focus on landmark rulings involving direct incitement, hateful and offensive speech, free expression, and compelled speech.
