Call for Submissions: Due Date August 30, 2025
The Great Lakes Social Studies Journal (GLSSJ) is excited to announce its expansion to include new editorial board members from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. With this expansion, we are thrilled to announce that submissions will be indexed, making them easily accessed through searchable databases. The GLSSJ will continue to be a double-blinded, peer-reviewed journal published online twice a year. We are thrilled to expand our reach to support the teaching and learning of social studies across the Great Lakes States!
For the Fall 2025 issue we welcome lesson plans, articles, poems, artwork, pod\casts, and book reviews from educators (and/or their students) on all topics focusing on social studies, and related disciplines. As a practitioner journal, we welcome submissions that focus on practical applications for K-16 educators.
The editorial team is willing to consult with any educator seeking assistance with putting ideas to paper. Videos and images are encouraged as supplemental materials to be included as the publication’s interactive elements.
Submissions should be between 1,000-5,000 words (excluding references) and submitted in a Microsoft Word document to ldoornbos@oakland.edu. Please include a cover page with your name, school/university, email, and a short bio. Videos and images can be sent as separate files or links. Please ensure submissions are free of identifying information within the text for review other than the cover page. Anonymous reviewers will review submissions.
