Animated History

Animated History is an Indiana-based educational resource dedicated to making history and government active, visual, and interactive. Founded by Indiana social studies educator and historical researcher Jeff Swisher, Animated History develops free digital experiences that help students move beyond memorizing names, dates, and vocabulary to exploring relationships, comparing evidence, recognizing patterns, and asking meaningful historical and civic questions.

The site offers a growing collection of classroom-ready resources for United States History, World History, and Government, including the Periodic Table of the Presidents, Periodic Table of the Constitution, Civilization Explorer, Campaign Connection, Civil War Explorer, Periodic Table of the New Deal, as well as interactive experiences such as the Royal Game of Ur, Senet, and an English–Hieroglyphics Translator.

Animated History is built around the belief that history and government should be experienced, not merely memorized. Its projects use interactive timelines, maps, filters, visual systems, games, and layered information to help students examine historical change, understand institutions, investigate evidence, and make connections across time. Every resource is designed with practical classroom use and student inquiry in mind.

ICSS members are encouraged to explore Animated History and consider incorporating its interactive resources into classroom lessons, student investigations, review activities, and inquiry-based learning.
