The University of Wyoming Firearms Research Center (FRC) is offering “Armed with Knowledge,” a nonpartisan, educator-focused initiative designed to help teachers strengthen instruction on the Second Amendment by building historical context and supporting thoughtful, classroom-appropriate discussion. What Teachers Receive (Over 2 Years)
Participating educators will receive:
- 12 instructional videos covering a range of Second Amendment topics (including the text/structure, the history of militias, major laws over time, and relevant Supreme Court cases). Armed with Knowledge Summary
- Access to a historical firearms law database with primary-source images plus an internal AI search and summarizing tool for classroom use. Armed with Knowledge Summary
- 8 webinars featuring scholars with different viewpoints on modern topics connected to the Second Amendment. Armed with Knowledge Summary
- A 2-day in-person conference for 100 teachers (expenses paid) featuring scholarship and workshops on navigating difficult topics in the classroom. Armed with Knowledge Summary
Who Can Participate
This opportunity is open to middle and high school educators who teach civics, social studies, history, and related courses. The program is guided by FRC staff and an advisory committee that includes K–12 educators, scholars, public health professionals, firearms experts, and UW’s College of Education.
About the Host Organization
The Firearms Research Center is housed in the University of Wyoming College of Law and focuses on improving how firearms and the Second Amendment are discussed and understood through research, scholarship, legal training, and publicly available resources.
