The Democracy and Capitalism Teacher’s Institute at the University of Virginia is a professional development program for high school social studies teachers. It is in its third year of operation and will be held in the middle of July. We cover topics such as what democracy and capitalism are, the foundations of democracy and capitalism in America, the factors in creating new businesses within democratic and capitalistic societies, and other topics. We explore downtown Charlottesville, hear from UVA faculty, and engage with classroom resources and lesson plans created for teachers, by teachers.
DCTI is free for educators to attend, and we cover the costs of travel, hotel, most meals, and additional expenses. Additionally, we provide educators a stipend for their time. All they have to do is apply, get in, and show up!
Applications are open from November 1st – February 1st. More information about the institute can be found on our website (including testimonials and schedule information!), as well as in our application portal.
